Residential Treatment in Arizona
Residential Treatment
Our Arizona residential rehab is for people struggling with drug or alcohol addiction. Residential care means around-the-clock care in a supportive environment. Our staff is available on a 24-hour basis to assist in a calm, relaxing atmosphere that allows our clients to focus entirely on their recovery.
At Canyon Vista, we offer a holistic treatment approach catered to the individual, not their diagnosis. Our knowledgeable staff works with each client from where they are presently. We care for the whole person, providing holistic addiction and mental health treatment. Each client is treated as an individual and receives a custom treatment program based on their personal and family background, substance abuse history, and recovery goals.
Clients learn to build their self-esteem, gain valuable life skills, and find the support community necessary to live a new life in recovery.
Clinical Programming
Our Arizona residential treatment center provides clients with structured treatment interventions and therapeutic activities. These interventions and activities address the individual needs of our clients with substance use disorders (SUDs) and alcohol use disorders (AUDs).
Once an addiction takes hold, it impacts every aspect of a person’s life. They no longer can choose whether they will drink or use drugs. The addiction has them firmly in its grasp. Personal relationships, employment, school, and self-esteem all suffer once an addiction enters the picture.
Canyon Vista’s clinical team is here to help our valued clients get to the root of their addictions. Together, we will work to help them heal the emotional trauma and overcome the damage addiction has caused.
Treatment Approach
The treatment team approaches addiction and co-occurring disorders with a variety of evidence-based treatments, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, and more.
Holistic Addiction Treatment
It’s common for a person living with an SUD or an AUD to neglect their physical health. It just isn’t a priority for someone who is heavily involved in their addiction.
Physical Activity
Physical activity is crucial for helping our clients heal more quickly from medical conditions. It also reduces stress and restores brain functioning.
Canyon Vista’s treatment team helps our clients bring their physical bodies back to health. Several types of physical activities are available at the inpatient rehab in Arizona so that there will be something to appeal to everyone:
- Dance movement therapy
- Gardening
- Music therapy
- Nature outings
- Swimming
- Working out
- Yoga
These activities are part of the addiction treatment plan to encourage healthy living habits. They also help our clients develop bonds with other guests in the community around shared interests.
Addiction often isolates those affected by it. At Canyon Vista, we encourage our clients to redevelop or develop social skills they can use when they leave treatment to build positive relationships with others.
Healthy Eating
Eating well is another part of the addiction treatment plan at Canyon Vista.
We provide all our clients with a healthy, balanced meal plan, and a nutritionist is on-site to ensure they get the fuel they need for their recovery.
Psychiatric and Medical Treatment
Addiction and mental health may be intertwined. Often, someone living with an addiction is also dealing with a mental health concern at the same time. When this happens, it is called a co-occurring disorder or a dual diagnosis.
A person living with an addiction is at higher risk for an underlying mental health condition, such as:
At the same time, someone with one of the above mental health conditions is at higher risk of becoming addicted to drugs and alcohol. A person with a mental health condition may start drinking or using drugs as a way to cope with their mental health symptoms. The self-medicating may continue even if they know that they have a mental illness due to the stigma around these types of health problems.
Some drugs can make an addicted person develop symptoms of mental illness if consumed over a long time. Alcohol has a detrimental effect on the brain and can lead to mental illness if someone is a long-term heavy drinker.
Treatment for Dual Diagnosis Clients
Dual-diagnosis clients are evaluated by our team after completing detox.
The first step is to get an accurate diagnosis of their mental health concern. Then, their mental health condition and their addiction are treated by our experienced psychiatrists, who treat these conditions alongside the addiction.
Registered nurses work on-site at all times to provide medical care when needed.
Equine Therapy
One of the benefits of choosing our inpatient alcohol rehab Phoenix for recovery is the bi-weekly equine therapy program. This part of addiction treatment at Canyon Vista is more than just riding horses. It is crucial for building communication skills and self-confidence in our clients.
Many people may find working with a large animal like a horse intimidating. Horses are big in size, but they can obey clear commands quickly. Horses reflect the mood of the person who is working with them. If that individual is hesitant, then the horse will be reluctant. As the client becomes more confident, the horse will reflect it.
Horses aren’t judgmental, don’t hold grudges, and are immediately accepting of our clients. As clients learn how to interact with their horses by petting, grooming, feeding, and eventually riding them, they develop confidence. They also learn team-building and leadership skills in a safe, supportive environment.
Licensed clinicians specializing in equine-assisted therapy help clients process their thoughts and feelings as they interact with and ride the horses.
Recovery Groups
Our clients attend 12-step meetings daily. Twelve-step programs are based on the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, which is a set of principles intended to help people with addiction recover. The steps are based on the belief that alcoholism (addiction) is a disease affecting the mind, body, and spirit. A connection to a Higher Power is a foundation for recovery.
The Higher Power set out in the 12 steps could be God, but it doesn’t necessarily need religious significance. It could be the Universe, the person’s understanding, or anything else they decide. Atheists, agnostics, and people of all religious faiths are welcome at 12-step meetings.
Clients also meet with the Canyon Vista alumni group. These are people who understand addiction treatment and know that it works. New clients will gain inspiration from meeting others in recovery.
Family Healing
Addiction is a family disease. It affects not only the person living with the addiction but everyone in the family, too. When the addicted person is doing things to feel their disease, they may be withdrawn from the family. They may not be performing well at work. Money may be missing from bank accounts without explaining where it went. These kinds of stressors lead to a breakdown in family relationships.
Addiction recovery must treat the entire family. These are people who have been deeply hurt as a result of a loved one’s addiction. They need to understand the disease of addiction and go through their own healing process. Family members can heal by attending individual sessions with the client and their primary therapist. These sessions will help the family members understand addiction and learn how to best support the client through the recovery process.
Otherwise, once a client completes their own addiction treatment, they will return to a family dynamic that hasn’t changed. The relationships between the client and their family will slip back into old patterns, and the client is more likely to relapse.
Life Skills
Life skills are the abilities and behaviors that allow people to effectively navigate the challenges and demands of everyday life. They are essential for social interaction, independent living, personal development, and success.
Addiction is a chronic disease. Once clients go into recovery, they still need to monitor themselves to avoid slipping into their previous behavior patterns.
Learn life skills that can be applied outside of our inpatient alcohol rehab in Phoenix. Our team teaches clients to set goals, cook, shop, and deal with daily pressures that could trigger a relapse. These newly acquired skills will increase self-esteem and a sense of independence.
